About Ferme du Grand Essert Aravis ...

If you want the flexibility of self-catering accommodation with the option to have someone else do the cooking now and again, in the heart of the mountains, don’t look any further. Aravis apartment is part of an old farmhouse, Ferme du Grand Essert, in the pretty village of Entremont.

Meet the owners over welcome drinks in the conservatory, and if you don’t fancy cooking, Carole, a keen cook, is happy to serve up delicious dinners in the cellar dining room. In this cosy property, with its large, tree-screened garden, you’ll feel like you’re miles from anywhere, but in fact it’s just a short walk into the village of Entremont, where you’ll find a bakery and restaurant.

The village is situated between the ski stations of La Clusaz and Le Grand Bornand, so you’re close to all the mountain action, but with a sauna, jacuzzi and summer swimming pool on your doorstep, you might find it difficult to tear yourself away! Larger parties (up to 15) can rent Aravis with the next door Bourne apartment, which sleeps eight. If both apartments are rented by a same group,  you will benefit from a 10% discount on the second rental.

The property ...

This Aravis apartment offers traditional Savoyard style with a luxurious finish.

Sleeping seven in four en suite bedrooms (all with televisions), the accommodation is set over two floors, so might not be ideal for those with very young children. The living room, with its dining area and kitchen is set under the eaves on the top floor, offering stunning mountain views from the balcony.

As befits an ancient farmhouse, the decor is very natural, with plenty of wood and quality soft furnishings. The shared sauna is on the first floor, and the jacuzzi out of doors on the ground floor, and in the winter, the wood burner in the communal conservatory keeps this space cosy every evening - it’s a great place to relax over a drink.

In the summer, the heated pool is available for shared use in the large sunny garden - sunbeds, barbecue, chairs and tables are provided. The pool is not fenced in, but has an electrically powered safety cover for when the pool isn't being used.

About the area ...

Situated between the two ski stations of La Clusaz and Le Grand Bornand, you can discover somewhere new every day. The areas are linked by a single ski pass, covering more than 220km of pistes and 95 lifts.

Cross-country skiers have a choice of trails on the Glieres plateau, scene of the Resistance campaign in World War II.

There is plenty to do for non-skiers too - try horse-drawn sleigh rides, ice-skating, paragliding or hot air ballooning or just relax in the heated indoor/outdoor pools at La Clusaz and Le Grand Bornand, as the snow-covered mountains tower above you.

Then it’s back to your apartment for a delicious dinner and a drink around the fire. Life doesn’t get much better ...

If you visit in the summer, you might not want to leave the large sunny garden, swimming pool and stunning mountain views, but with a fabulous mountain playground on all sides, it would be a shame not to explore it.

There are plenty of hiking and mountain bike trails, and if you prefer, the ski lifts will whisk you up to higher ground so that you don’t have to put in the hard work! Pack a picnic of some local bread and cheese, or eat al fresco at the mountain restaurants, which offer good food and spectacular views.

The medieval lakeside town of Annecy is just 30 minutes away by car and is a must for a day out, whatever the season, with its unique mix of restaurants, shops and museums. In the summer it’s a great place for golf and watersports, or hire a boat and explore some of the quiet lakeside beaches

Thrill seekers can try paragliding, canyoning, climbing, via ferrata or white-water rafting, and at the end of the day you can reflect on the days fun over a cold beer or an ice cream in the sunny garden at Ferme le Grand Essert.

What next?

If you would like to explore the French Alps from this fabulouse apartment, check your holiday dates against our availability calendar - we can hold your dates for you for 24 hours if you need a bit of time to make plans. But don't wait too long - flexible accommodation like this is always popular with OVO Network guests.

From the Owner

Welcome to our private paradise in the heart of the mountains!

We live here in our very private paradise all year round, enjoying all the seasons.

Nestled in the heart of the Aravis mountains, we’re just 40 minutes from Geneva, and a few minutes away from the telecabines of Le Grand Bornand and La Clusaz. Fly in in the morning and you can be skiing by 11am!

Our listed Savoyard farmhouse is one of the most important old buildings in the local area. The stone in the kitchen dates from the 15th century, and the village of Entremont has a fascinating history dating back to 1154. Before we moved to Entremont, I used to run a B&B in Burgundy (“L’ange Souriant” in the village of Flavigny sur Ozerain).

When we were looking for our home in the Alps, I wanted something pretty, upmarket, chic and close to the airport. The villages of Le Grand Bornand and La Clusaz ticked all the boxes, and when we discovered our beautiful farmhouse in 2011, we bought it straight away.

We will provide you with something very special and personal. We try to keep standards high, offering a quality service. We are very keen on French cooking and good wine, and hope to demonstrate this at our “table d'hôtes”. Together with my son Martin and husband Bruno, I would love to welcome you at the farmhouse so that you can discover this beautiful location and accommodation for yourselves.

“Great Lodge”

We chose this great alpine lodge for a summer week of exploring the mountains, towns and lakes of the French Alps. We were a very active set of grandparents, two couples and one grandchild. The location was perfect for easy access to so much beauty, walking & fun on the slopes (no snow needed!).
Our hosts were welcoming and helpful, but importantly left us to get on with our holiday. Their house is split into their home and two rental parts, but all can live easily alongside without getting in anyones way. Great heated pool was made good use of. Martin and Carole keep a clean, well maintained and well appointed lodge. We had a fantastic week. Thank you!

“We had a lovely two weeks at Ferme du Grand Essert.”

Carole the owner was very helpful and readily suggested restaurants for us to go to and booked us in without hesitation. The pool area was fabulous with gorgeous views and a super heated pool to swim in. Members of our party also enjoyed the hot tub. The towels for the pool were a great idea. Then there were the hills to climb, the lakes to swim in and bikes to ride. My daughter, Grace, said it was her best holiday ever. Everybody also loved Mocha the dog. Thank you also to Carole for helping me so unreservedly when I stupidly lost my driving license. Very much appreciated.

“A quality holiday in a magnificent setting.”

An excellent setting and a very beautiful area!

“Very friendly and cosy !”

We stayed for a long weekend in February and would definitely recommend it. The chalet is beautiful - very warm and cosy, and the hosts are very friendly and extremely accommodating.

“Great family holiday”

We were a family group of 8 adults and 6 children. The manager was extremely helpful and welcoming. She cooked wonderful meals for us. In particular we found all the beds were very comfortable. Apart from the stairs being a bit of a challenge to grandparents, it was a super chalet for a 3 generation family holiday. Sincere thanks to the managers.

“We had everything we needed. ”

It was our first stay in your beautiful lodgings and we were very satisfied with everything we found there. The house was charming and, at the same time, very well equipped. We had everything we needed. Carole, our "landlady" was very friendly and forthcoming and assisted us in every possible way. Her cooking skills were excellent and the meals very delicious. She provided us with any additional information we might require and she even gave us some very useful advice for our daily activities, whether we planned hiking trips in the mountains near the resort or attempted to "conquer" Europe's highest peak, the Mont Blanc at Chamonix. In all, our one week stay at Ferme du Grand Essert - Aravis / Bourne was a complete success! This, certainly, has not been our last trip to the beautiful resort in the beautiful French Alps!

“ Already have recommended it !”

We just loved the whole property, its facilities, stunning views and quiet location. There was really nothing to not like and we would happily rebook the property and / or recommend it to friends. Entremont village was ideal for us but still easy to get to most places like Thônes, Annecy, Geneva, or Evian. La Clusaz is only a few miles away with mountain drives and walks partially on the door step. Carole and her family could not have been more welcoming, friendly or helpful. My only issue would be accessibility if you have a mobility issue or very young family because of the stairs. This is the only concern I would have. I also had a few issues with booking and payment but luckily Carole and Martin were exceptional in assisting us as was Sylvie from OVO Network. We felt valued as customers and very safe. All in all, you get a lot for your money here and our whole family loved it.

“Great facilities, superb area”

We appreciated the warm welcome as well as great facilities with pool, garden and hot tub. Superb rural location but close to La Clusaz. Immediate area is peaceful but all mountain activities are a short drive away.

Carole is so welcoming, and the area is very beautiful.

Dana E. - 15/08/2015

“Good facilities, good service.”

Thanks Carole for an excellent chalet, and a really enjoyable week of skiing. The beds are very comfortable (much needed after a hard days skiing). Grand Bornand was excellent for beginners and early intermediate skiers, lots of green and blue runs with no uphill polling needed.

John C. - 14/02/2015

“Thank you so much.”

The welcome, the owners' discretion and willingness to help, a huge range of books and DVDs, a bathroom for every bedroom ... and Christmas decorations! The village is in a valley with a small river, the scenery is magnificent in the snow and the shops are not that far away.

Frédéric B. - 20/12/2014

“Lovely place in stunning area”

We spent a week in this beautiful chalet and loved its grounds, fantastic pool, and we appreciated the large bedrooms for everyone. The scenery is amazing and there is plenty to do in the area.

Kate C. - 23/08/2014

“Magical environment”

A very beautiful view and a very beautiful chalet, in a magical setting in the middle of nowhere.

Hélène H. - 12/07/2014

“Perfect authentic and generous service, and GREAT food”

From the moment you book, you'll know the standard of attention you'll get from Carole, her husband.

Very professional organisation on arrival, online booking of ski pass (and the lent us the rechargeable magnetic cards), great advise for the ski shop we got our equipment from, 9 seat truck with ski rack ready to drive us to the resort (La Clusaz or Grand Bornand, 15 minutes away), etc etc.

When we arrived at the apartment the wood burner was already on and the whole place felt nice and cosy. The bedrooms are very spacious, the beds so comfortable and the interior decoration is very tasteful.
Carole has also a dryer we can use, a sauna, exterior jacuzzi, summer pool, raclette set, etc... Nothing was too much asking for her, and she even organised the baby sitting of our two children (2 years old and 7 month old) while we were enjoying the pistes.

And what about her cooking: amazing salmon, the best "tartiflette" we've ever had, gorgeous tajine, lasagna better than in Italy, and a selection of superb wines at reasonable prices. Pure bliss!

Breakfast was brought up to us in the apartment every morning with home made jam... Simply delicious.

Carole loves cooking with local products and always has local cheese ready for us to taste... Every meal was a feast!

So if you're looking for preserved nature, authentic atmosphere, lovely food, tasteful interior, space, good sleep, kindness and talent, then this is the place to go!

Frédéric C. - 01/03/2014

“Warm welcome, lovely chalet”

This chalet is beautiful, full of rustic charm and home comforts, plus the sauna and jacuzzi, facing the snowy mountains... perfect! As a party of four adults and four children, we part self catered, and Carole cooked for us the other nights. Despite one of our party being allergic to onions (challenging for any French cuisine), Carole served delicious French dishes. She is everything you would want in a host. This was our first time driving to the French Alps to ski. Although 10 mins drive to the ski lifts, the chalet is low enough to have not needed snow chains (in February). We were able to park in the town for free each day, then get the free ski bus to the lifts. Lots of slopes for beginners and intermediates. Not as many English visitors as you find in the better known French ski resorts, so ideal for practising your French. As our third ski holiday with the children, we really enjoyed this one and give top marks for the chalet, Carole and the resort.

Christopher W. - 22/02/2014

“For a break from the usual concrete jungle!”

We spent with our 3 children a fantastic week at Chalet Grand Essert. The owners were very welcoming and made sure we had everything we needed. No need to buy salt, pepper, cleaning products or coal for the BBQ: everything you need is provided! The bedrooms are vast and nicely decorated. The garden, pool and jacuzzi are amazing too. We didn't try the sauna as it was already so warm outside! To top it up the area is stunning, far from the concrete jungle we experienced before in other mountain resorts.

François T. - 10/08/2013

“Fantastic chalet and great service”

Our stay was fantastic. Very good atmosphere and splendid food. We couldn't have asked for more.

Rudi R. - 04/07/2013

“Great service at reasonable price”

My friends and I enjoyed very much our three days with Carole! Her chalet is very nice, in a beautiful and quiet location. We made good use of the pool and the hot tub, and the barbecue prepared by Carole and Bruno was simply delicious. And all this at very reasonable price...

Philip S. - 28/06/2013

“Beautiful chalet in secluded location”

A warm welcome, very well equipped chalet, great garden and swimming pool. We spent 10 ideal days away from it all (although close to village and shops). It’s ideal to hike and enjoy the pool in summer. We warmly recommend it.

Family R. - 15/08/2011

“A great place to stay!”

Fantastic place to stay and we all enjoyed our time here. The food was delicious and the bedrooms were big and clean. We will certainly be back soon! Thank you Carole for this amazing holiday... Nothing is too much trouble at this excellent chalet

Alex D. - 27/04/2011

“Comfortable rustic charm and conveniently placed for the slopes”

We spent 2 weeks in March staying in one of the 2 self-contained apartments in this charming rustic converted traditional Savoyard farmhouse. We were made to feel very welcome and comfortable throughout, and nothing was too much trouble for Carole and her family. The chalet is situated along a quiet private road and enjoys lovely views across and up the valley towards the Aravis range and ski area. The 2 nearest ski resorts of the area (Grand Bornand and La Clusaz) are both a short drive from the chalet and we were whisked to either and brought back again by Carole at our convenience ... perfect !! Likewise, Carole is happy to collect and transport guests arriving at Geneva airport. Carole is an able cook and creates some very agreeable dishes, not to mention some of the best smoked salmon we have ever tasted (the fish is smoked at the chalet). We had a great time and can heartily recommend it for anyone seeking an authentic rustic experience but also with all modern conveniences (and very comfortable beds). With its flexible accommodation options the chalet suits couples, families, groups of friends or solo guests.

Why Le Grand Bornand?

Le Grand Bornand is an idyllic Alpine village which happens to be surrounded by some great skiing and in summer, a superb mountain playground. There are none of the huge hotel complexes you'll find in other ski resorts – just a friendly welcome all year round. Families are particularly welcome, with a great programme of activities to keep kids of all ages busy and happy.
